Christmas 2007

This was our 2nd married Christmas, but our first Christmas where we celebrated just the two of us...we loved having Chris' parents with us last holiday season, but it was also nice to have the morning just to ourselves. We had a fire and opened a few gifts. Our main gift to ourselves was a very nice new digital camera, which we have already gotten plenty of good use out of! The kitties - Shadow & Lacey got some treats & new toys that they are enjoying. The dogs - Abby & Ellie got new toys and some rawhide that they quickly went to work on. After opening gifts at our house, we had brunch at my parents house and later that evening had Christmas dinner with the extended family. Dad's "twin" Betty Hogsett made him his own Southern style Coconut Pie - that he reluctantly shared with us later in the evening. Here are some pictures to share...

The 2007 Old Oaken Bucket Game

Chris and I have been proud IU football season ticket holders for the last couple years now. There have been lots of disappointing games in the last two seasons, but it was all worth it by the end of IU's last game, the Old Oaken Bucket game against Purdue. As many people know, our coach, Coach Hep, lost his battle with a brain tumor this past summer. The players who played under him made a promise to "Play 13", meaning become bowl eligible and play in IU's first bowl game in many years. Going into this game, the Hoosiers were 6-5, making them bowl eligible, but not giving them a guarantee of being invited to play in a bowl game.

At halftime, the IU Marching Hundred (winner of the 2007 Sudler Trophy) and the Purdue "All American" Marching Band paid tribute to the former voice of the Hundred, Jeremy Ferguson, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident a few weeks before the season began.

IU played a wonderful game, keeping Purdue nearly out of the game until they began to make a come-back in the 4th quarter and ultimately tying the game. We were all so afraid that the team's goal would not be met. However, Austin Starr, our place kicker, kicked a career long 49 yard field goal with 30 seconds to go in the game to put IU up for good at 27-24!

Shortly thereafter, as the clock ran out, the students rushed the field to celebrate a victory, a wonderful season, and to honor their coach, Coach Hep.

Celebrating with Rob and Jenny! Congratulations IU Hoosiers!

17th Annual IU Dance Marathon

Chris and I recently spent the weekend in Bloomington visiting the IU Dance Marathon with raises money for the Ryan White Infectious Disease Center at Riley Hospital. It was great to visit with some old friends that I hadn't seen in about a year. And the best part of the weekend was in their 17th year, they set a new record, raising over $1 million dollars!
