IU Basketball

We went to a local sports bar tonight to watch the IU vs. Northwestern game. Brendan was able to show support for his team in an outfit made by Mamaw. Luckily, he was very well behaved AND IU won the game.

Dad's First Day Back to Work

Tuesday - After a wonderful week off, Daddy had to go back to work...someone has to make money, right?!? Brendan decided to send his Dad a little message.

Brendan is one week old today! He's changed so much already. We'll try to keep track of how he changes with weekly pictures. Here's the first:

First Bath & Manicure

Monday (2/18) - Weight check at the doctor's - down to 7 lbs. 2 ounces, from 8 lbs 3 ounces.

Brendan kept scratching his face, but mom & dad were too chicken to clip his nails, so mommy filed them instead.

He wasn't really dirty, but he hadn't had a bath since the day he was born, so we thought we'd give it a try...Brendan was not a fan, but calmed down quickly once he was dried off. I guess it will be a little while before he joins his daddy scuba diving.

First Weekend at Home

Saturday - All the grandparents came over and made mom & dad a wonderful brunch - complete with mimosas made with champagne from Great Aunt Mimi & Great Uncle Vince in New York.

Sunday morning - Brendan had his first big outing! Mom had a short list of groceries, etc. and wanted out of the house, so the grandmas took mom & Brendan to Target. All of us trying to figure out the carseat!
Jen - relieved to be out of the house, but completely exhausted!

Sunday evening - Since it was Bisia and Grampy's last night in town, we decided to try to go out to dinner. We went to Z's Oyster Bar in Castleton. Very good food! Everyone had a great time and Brendan was very good until dessert, then he decided he was hungry, so we had to head home, but overall a good night out. All nine of us out to dinner. Too bad I don't know how to crop/zoom in on photos on here... Mamaw & GranBob with Brendan and the bottle of wine we enjoyed - Jen's birth year. :)
Chris - near the end of the evening, trying to keep Brendan from screaming. Grampy holding Brendan - of course he's got his paci. Bisia holding Brendan...guess what, he still has the paci!

Today's the Big Day (Hopefully!)

Tuesday

4am - Well, I've been up since 2am with lots of cramping...finally gave up and woke up Chris and we're going to walk around the house, snack, and hopefully get another hour of sleep before we have to get up to go to the hospital. So far the overnight snowfall that was predicted has once again, not shown up, which is probably a good thing, we only have a dusting of snow at our house. :)

7am - We went back to bed at 5am and actually got about another hour of sleep, so that was good. Everyone told me to make sure that I eat something before I go in, but I really have no appetite. :( I've had two pieces of toast with peanut butter since 4am, so hopefully that will hold me. We plan to leave for the hospital soon, so I'll post again once we get settled in.

9:30am - well, it took 35 minutes to get to the hospital! Traffic was horrible. Finally got checked in...I have my IV and the evil juice (Pitocin) is running. We had a little surprise about 15 minutes ago, my OB popped in to say good morning and broke my water! Yikes - this is really going to happen! I'm 5cm at this point. Hopefully I'll be able to get up and walk around soon. I'm having some contractions, but they aren't too terrible yet.

12pm - Chris here. Sorry we haven't updated in a couple hours. Jen's moving along! She's been having quite a few contractions, pretty strong. We've spent over an hour in her room, after an hour or so of circling the floor. She just called for an epidural. The only thing is, the pain's mostly in her back, which means we'll need to figure out a way to turn him.

12:45pm - I'm back. :) Much better now. :) Much love to the epidural guy...he was excellent! I was hoping to make it a little longer before getting the epidural, but the back pain was getting unbearable even with Chris being wonderful and rubbing my back. I think that the combination of Pitocin and her breaking my water was just too much for me - they were so intense. So, anyway...I'm 7cm and 90% effaced! Baby's doing ok - he didn't like the epidural at first, but is happier now. My plan now is to rest a little bit and they'll recheck me in about 2 hours. So I'll post again then. :)

2:30pm - 7cm, 100%! The contractions have leveled off, though, so they turned the pitocin back up. They've also put in an internal contraction monitor thingie.

3:15pm - Contractions are ramping up again. Fingers crossed.

4:45pm - The doc came by. We're prepping for the O.R. now. C-section. There hasn't been enough progression, and the risks of a natural delivery are too great at this point. From start to finish should take an hour once we're in the O.R.

5:30pm - Ladies and gentlemen, in the blue corner, 21 in. long, weighing 8 lbs. 3 oz., with an Apgar of 8 or 9, Brendan! Armstrong! Low!
We'll have photos soon, we promise!
Anyone who'd like to visit can do so tomorrow (Wed.). Just give Jen or Chris a call beforehand on one of their cell phones.

8:30pm - OK, we're busted. :-) Things got really busy before Chris got the chance to update the blog. Oh, and the official time of birth was 5:18.

9:45pm - Here's a photo!

Wednesday

7:45am - We'll be up for visitors for today and Thursday morning. We're in Community Hospital North, Room 4105. Call Jen's cell when you get to the hospital, so we can let you into the maternity ward.

Thursday

Happy Valentine's Day!

For our fans, here's a family photo (better ones to come later):

The Countdown Begins...

1/16: (36 weeks) Today was my first weekly OB appointment. The good news is that the little man is actually head down - OB checked with the ultrasound machine to make sure. Unfortunately, despite plenty (in my humble opinion) of Braxton Hicks contractions - which are becoming more frequent and more uncomfortable, I am 0 centimeters dilated. Oh well...better luck next week I guess.

We did discuss the "what ifs" of going past my due date of 2/13. My OB will not let me go more than a week past without scheduling an induction. So worst case scenario - he will be here on or by 2/20!

1/20: Someone on one of my message boards posted this...I just had to share! :)

EVICTION NOTICE: I am issuing 30 day notice for EVICTION. Tenant will have 30 days in which he can either gather his belongings and promptly vacate the premises, or wait until the final day. After which, he will be physically removed from the property.

He's being evicted due to breech of contract and destruction of property. Expansions only to the FRONT of the house, within reasonable limits, were discussed. Not only have these limits been exceeded, but additions to the back of the house were also made!

Remodeling and gutting of the home was never approved, nor was changing the initial layout and base structure. And due to property damage, there are now leaks in both the upper AND lower levels of the home. On top of which, the landlord has received numerous complaints about nightly disturbances.

After 30 days from this day that he doesn’t comply with the notice will result in immediate and forceful removal at my discretion.

1/23: (37 weeks) Today was my second OB appointment. Baby is still head down, so that's good. I'm still having plenty of BH contractions - more frequent & more painful - which is good & bad. I did get checked again this week, and I'm 2-3 centimeters dilated and 50% effaced!!! :) Yeah for me! The OB said that I could go anytime or it could still be another week or so, but she doesn't expect to see me at my 40 week appointment. :) I'll keep you posted.

1/29: (37 weeks, 6 days) Today was my third OB appointment. Baby is still head down and definitely very low, but no further dilation. :( The only good part of the appointment is that I have an ultrasound tomorrow to check the size of the little man. Let's hope that he's not huge, but then on the other than hand...maybe if he's big, they'll consider inducing me earlier.

1/30: (38 weeks) I had my 4th ultrasound today, to check on the little man's size. Everything looked good. He's about 7 lbs right now - give or take 10% said the u/s tech, but they usually don't underestimate on weight. He's also measuring in the 69th percentile for height - she couldn't give an overall height though. His head is very low, so no good face pictures to post, we'll all just have to wait a little longer!

2/5: (38 weeks, 6 days) Still pregnant for those of you following along at home. :) I forgot that I had this "guess" list from one of my showers...thought that I'd post it here. Let me know if anyone else wants to contribute a guess...post a comment here or email me...

2/6: (39 weeks) The EVICTION DATE is set!!! I have made some progress now 3-4 cm and 70% effaced, but still no baby so far. However, because of my approaching due date and my OB going on vacation at the end of next week, I am being induced on Tuesday - Feb 12th - which is the day that she's on call as well, so I am nearly guarenteed to have her deliver me, which makes me happy. :) So, the end is definitely in sight! I'll keep you posted of any further developments.

2/11: (39 weeks, 6 days) Lots of cramping/contractions overnight, but nothing strong enough to go to the hospital. They fizzled out this morning to just cramping. :( But, I ended up calling the OB to see about having her strip my membranes today, to see if that will move things along. She was agreeable to see me at 1:30pm today. Apparently, she strips my membranes every check, so we did that again today in hopes of moving things along. I am now 4-5 cm dilated and 70% effaced. My OB says that I'm doing very well - well in my opinion would be 10 cm dilated!! :) The plan now is to go in at 7:30am tomorrow to get Pitocin and around lunch time, they'll break my water. So tomorrow is Eviction Day whether the little man likes it or not! :)
