There were two abnormalities found on Katelyn's Echo. A PDA (patent ductus arterious) which is part of the normal fetal circulation that should close at or closely following birth & either an ASD (atrial septal defect) or PFO (patent foramen ovale). The PFO is also part of the fetal circulation and normally closes at or closely following birth. Apparently the PFO does remain open in approximately 25% of the population.
The plan is to repeat her Echo tomorrow morning - see if they have closed on their own and have one of the cardiologists from Riley check on her as well.

Goodness! Such drama for one so young. I hope this doesn't mean she is going to be a handful.
